Role Overview:

ClarityPay is looking for a Corporate Counsel. This is a foundational hire for the legal and compliance team of a rapidly growing fintech, so it comes with built-in opportunity for professional growth and development.

The initial focus of this role will be commercial contracting, and responsibilities will quickly expand to include regulatory and operational matters. To that end, this could be an ideal opportunity for a rock-solid transactional attorney with a desire to become an in-house generalist. It could also be a great match for a fintech generalist that wants to develop subject matter expertise in consumer lending.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take a lead role in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts with merchants and vendors.
  • Support business development, customer service, and other internal stakeholders in fielding legal and compliance questions.
  • Serve as an in-house subject matter expert on the consumer and small business lending regulations, tracking relevant changes and directives that may impact the company or our partners.
  • Support ClarityPay’s growth and development efforts with accurate and pragmatic regulatory advice and in-depth legal risk assessments relevant to the company’s development of new financial products.
  • Provide legal support for ClarityPay’s Compliance and Operational Risk Program.
  • Develop additional legal and compliance resources for contracting and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate on the resolution of inquiries and complaints from customers and regulators.
  • Collaborate on the development and improvement of internal policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Project-manage various key legal and compliance projects.
  • Support or own other legal projects as determined by the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer.

Qualifications:

· JD from a top tier law school and a license to practice in good standing in primary state of residence.

· 3-10 years total legal experience.

· At least 2 years of law firm experience.

· Significant contract drafting and negotiation experience.

· In-depth familiarity with consumer financial services matters generally.

· Strong legal research skills.

· Strong writteCon and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to learn and leverage new technology quickly and effectively.

Bonus Points:

· Prior experience in fintech lending.

· Broad legal experience covering transactional, regulatory, and dispute resolution matters.

· Prior experience performing in-depth legal risk assessments on consumer financial services regulations.

· Experience supporting the compliance function of a consumer lender or lending platform.

· Experience working with regulators to quickly and effectively resolve inquiries, complaints, or information requests.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation and equity package.
  • Comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision).
  • Collaborative office culture with a strong product mindset.
  • Opportunities to grow, lead, and shape the future of consumer finance.
  • 401k program

Role Details:

  • Limited travel is expected, primarily for corporate gatherings and industry conferences.
  • This role will report to the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer.

Salary Range: $150,000 to $160,000 per year.
